Mac vs PC…
Specs are as indentical as possible, however the PC has more video memory and faster RAM. I chose the $1799 iMac as the $1449 one has an old enough graphics card that you can’t actually buy it at umart anymore and well, specs-wise it’s crap.
iMac 21.5-inch: 3.2GHz
- 3.2GHz Intel Core i3
- 21.5-inch, 1920-by-1080 resolution
- 4GB (two 2GB) memory
- 1TB hard drive
- 8x double-layer SuperDrive
- ATI Radeon HD 5670 with 512MB
Total: $1799
This really isn’t impressive specs in a computer by any standards.
Custom built PC: 3.2GHz
| Component | Price |
|---|---|
| 3.2GHz Intel Core i3 | $159 |
| Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 | $120 |
| Corsair XMS3 2x2GB DDR3-1600 | $59 |
| Samsung 1TB SATA2 7.2k 32MB | $57 |
| LG 22X+- Super Multi DVDR | $21 |
| Thermaltake M9 Midi Tower | $84 |
| PowerColor HD5670 1G DDR5 | $79 |
| Asus VW227D 21.5” FULL HD | $145 |
Total: $724
Okay so the iMac has only 2.1 sound, 4 USB 2.0 ports, Firewire 800, a Mini display port and Gigabit Ethernet. The PC has 7.1 sound, S/PDIF Out, DVI-D/HDMI/D-Sub, 4 USB 2.0 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports, IEEE 1394a (Firewire), eSATA 3Gb/s.
As for the question where is the Operating System in the price? Windows 7 Home Premium sells for $103 or of course you can go Linux which is free. Oh and a keyboard and mouse will set you back about $15 and a set of 5.1 speakers $62, either way the prices don’t come close to comparing and they are the same hardware.
Why anyone would buy an Mac baffles me.
